Abstract
Etiologies other than pollution have been suggested in regard to the occurrence of dermal necrosis in marine fish. A study of fish collected from estuarine and ocean waters of California was made in 1972 and 1973 to determine the geographical extent of fish exhibiting neoplastic-like growths. Samples of fish were obtained from the estuarine areas of San Francisco Bay and Humboldt Bay and ocean areas off northern, central, and southern California. Monterey Bay was the only area from which neoplastic abnormalities had not been reported previously or observed in samples taken in this study. (8pp.)
